About this event

Secret Gallery will open El Hechizo on Friday, November 6, bringing together more than 20 artists from Northern New Mexico to explore the region’s folklore y los cuentos. The exhibition is co-curated by Jake Cisneros and Eric Romero.

Meaning “the spell” or “the enchantment,” El Hechizo considers how stories and traditions continue to change through the people who live them, inherit them and reinterpret them. The exhibition looks beyond familiar Southwest imagery to present culture as a living archive shaped by land, memory, ancestry, labor, faith, language and lived experience.

The works in El Hechizo reflect distinct narratives rooted in the villages of Nuevo México and the experiences of the artists who call the region home.

The opening reception takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. at Secret Gallery, located inside the ARRIVE Albuquerque hotel. The evening will feature music by Felix y Los Gatos and a pop-up cocktail bar. The exhibition opens in conjunction with ABQ Artwalk.
