COMMUNITY NEWS

  • PNM will hold an event at the Los Griegos Health & Social Services Center on March 27 from noon to 2 p.m. to help customers pay their electric bills, and eligible participants must bring proof of income, their most recent bill, and a valid photo ID. The assistance comes from PNM’s Good Neighbor Fund & PNM CARES to support seniors and others facing hardships.  KOAT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A water main break on Cherry Road on March 23 caused a sinkhole that swallowed an RRPD vehicle and left Officer Cory Marquez—muddy but unhurt—while repair work finished by noon on March 24 and the road remains closed from Penasco Road to Unser Frontage Road until permanent repairs are done.  Sandoval Signpost

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Smithsonian traveling exhibit Why We Serve: Native Americans in the United States Armed Forces opened at the Loma Colorado Main Library on March 24 and will run until June 1. The exhibit shows Native military service from the American Revolution to today—events include a film and talks on March 29, April 12, and May 17.  Sandoval Signpost

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Registration for the 2025 Summer Reading Program is underway for students from kindergarten to 8th grade to join free small reading groups led by trained teachers in multiple locations in June and July. The program will serve up to 15,000 students and aims to help them return to school ready to learn — families can sign up online.  KOAT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New data from the U.S. Forest Service and Northern Arizona University shows that people cause nearly twice as many wildfires as lightning—experts warn that if dry weather persists, officials may have to close some forests.  KOAT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state legislature passed a Broadband for Education Bill that now awaits Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's signature. If signed, the bill will transfer the school network from the Public Schools Authority to the Office of Broadband Access and Expansion and is expected to improve online teaching, emergency services, and support for broadband providers.  KOAT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health expert Dr. Ash from UNM Hospital said a study published last year found that daily multivitamins do not extend life or prevent heart disease, cancer or stroke—he urged people to eat fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains to get the right vitamins.  KOAT
