Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 18th of May.
Good morning, Rio Rancho.
🚧 Accidents
A crash at Coors Boulevard and Bluewater Road NW on Saturday afternoon killed a passenger in a Toyota while injuring both drivers and a Ford passenger, with police confirming that neither vehicle was speeding or impaired and that the Toyota was making a left turn when the Ford ran a yellow light — investigation continues.
🏛️ Government
U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján and Sen. John Cornyn introduced a bill to fund a USDA sterile fly production facility to stop screwworms, a parasitic larva that halted cross-border livestock trade in Mexico and now threatens New Mexico’s farms.
The bill uses a method from past outbreaks to release sterile male flies—if passed, it will help protect local ranches and dairy producers.
