Good morning, Rio Rancho. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 22nd of May.
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today the New Mexico Environment Department released a draft rule to lower the carbon intensity of transportation fuels and asked the Environmental Improvement Board to adopt the new, technology-neutral regulations. The rule follows a 2024 law signed by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and aims for a reduction of at least 20% from 2018 levels by 2030 and 30% by 2040 — public comments are expected to begin mid-June for 60 days. Sandoval Signpost
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Rio Rancho City Council unanimously delayed action on the Chamisa Hills master plan—which would rezone the former Club Rio Rancho golf course for over 300 homes and mixed-use areas—after a crowded meeting where residents raised concerns about traffic, drainage, and open space. Mesa del Sol said it will update the plan to clarify details about public improvement district funding before the next vote on Aug. 14. Sandoval Signpost
