CULTURE NEWS

  • The Placitas Artists Series will present Kim Fredenburgh and the Altura Ensemble on May 25 at 3 p.m. at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, where the program will feature a diverse mix of classical and modern pieces including a world premiere piano trio. A concert talk and art reception for local visual artists will begin at 2 p.m. at the church's Fellowship Hall—children in kindergarten through 12th grade may attend for free with a guardian.  Sandoval Signpost
  • The Rio Rancho Players Community Theatre is preparing for a summer return with a new production and will host two membership and pre-audition workshop meetings on June 14 and June 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 1650A Rio Rancho Blvd., SE—next to Defined Fitness’ new pickleball facility; they will hold auditions on June 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and start rehearsals in early July before ten performances begin mid-October.  Sandoval Signpost

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PNM is urging graduates and their families to secure Mylar balloons safely during celebrations to prevent power outages and dangerous situations if the balloons touch electrical equipment— the utility provided tips like tying balloons to heavy weights and keeping them away from power lines.  Sandoval Signpost
  • Bernalillo, Sandoval and Santa Fe counties are partnering to offer free rides for Memorial Day weekend through the 'Take a Ride on Us' program, which runs from 10 a.m. today to 2 a.m. on May 27 using code NMMD25 on Uber for up to $10 off two trips—this offer is limited to 2,500 rides and excludes Uber Eats orders and driver tips.  Sandoval Signpost
  • State regulators are accepting public comments on energy-saving targets and incentives for electric utilities under a proposed rulemaking mandated by the Efficient Use of Energy Act for 2026 to 2030—written comments will be accepted until May 30. At a recent hearing, stakeholders urged adjustments to performance incentives to better match market challenges—public input will help shape the new rules.  Sandoval Signpost

HEALTH NEWS

  • The New Mexico Department of Health reported 76 confirmed measles cases in New Mexico as of Thursday, May 22—marking the largest outbreak in years with many cases in unvaccinated people. Health officials urge residents to get vaccinated as travel season nears—especially in counties with active transmission.  KOAT
