ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New Mexico experiences four distinct monsoon patterns that change summer weather and affect rain and temperature. Meteorologist Byron Morton explained that the classic setup has high pressure in the east — driving moisture from the south to the north while reverse flows and extreme systems can lead to hotter, drier conditions.  KOAT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Lujan Grisham signed an executive order expanding Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program statewide to offer free monthly books to every child from birth to age five in Corrales—an effort supported by an additional $1 million for fiscal year 2026 to reach nearly 30,000 more children.  Sandoval Signpost
  • State Rep. Martinez will host a town hall on NM 528 safety on June 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Road NE in Rio Rancho—NM Department of Transportation Secretary Ricky Serna and community leaders will discuss increasing traffic accidents, including a fatal crash last October.  Sandoval Signpost

  • Two affordable housing developments Felician Villa I and Felician Villa II opened on June 3 to offer 132 affordable apartments for seniors 55 and older with a preference for active or retired military members — featuring one- and two-bedroom units with community and outdoor amenities. Housing New Mexico partnered with Chelsea Investment Corporation and CC Housing to launch the projects as part of local efforts to boost affordable housing options.  Sandoval Signpost
