BUSINESS NEWS

  • The union representing grocery store workers reached a tentative agreement with Smith's Food and Drug Stores after 97% of members voted to authorize a strike — giving workers certainty after their contract expired on June 15. The contract was extended through June 28 as union leaders plan to meet with Albertsons later this week to negotiate a similar deal.  KOAT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Summer monsoon rains bring needed water to New Mexico as four wind patterns affect the weather. Meteorologist Byron Morton explained the common pattern carries moisture from the south, the reverse flow brings dry air, one setup moves air from the northeast, and a strong high pressure system blocks the rain—making conditions hot and dry.  KOAT

  • Residents in Rio Rancho gathered in a town hall meeting to discuss safety concerns over a dangerous corridor near an intersection where a local couple was killed last fall—many urged officials to review road safety measures.  Rio Rancho Observer
