Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 15th of July.
Good morning, Rio Rancho.
🏘️ Community
Sandia Area Federal Credit Union and American General Media have launched the 'Knock Hunger Out' food drive that collects non-perishable food and money donations to benefit Storehouse New Mexico and will run through August 10.
Donations are accepted from noon to 1 p.m. at the branch near Wyoming Avenue — additional collection events are held at SAFCU branches in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.
🏛️ Government
The city of Rio Rancho is asking qualified residents to apply for seats on its commissions, boards and committees + applications are now being accepted.
On Monday, the governor and the Children, Youth and Families Department issued a directive that requires hospitals to hold newborns exposed to drugs for a 72-hour investigation to decide if they will return home or enter state custody.
The move, affecting over 120 vulnerable infants, raises concerns about resource shortages and foster home capacity—officials worry the state lacks enough support.
