- ➤ New Mexico pilots reported nearly 100 laser strikes on aircraft last year that raised safety concerns and saw a 40% increase in reports while law enforcement noted few consequences—state charges may help increase accountability but have not yet been proposed. KOAT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ New Mexico will host a tax-free weekend for back-to-school shopping starting July 25 and ending July 27—shoppers can buy qualifying items like clothing under $100 and computers under $1,000 without paying tax. KOAT
- ➤ The New Mexico State Police will soon send mobile alerts after Silver or Turquoise Alerts are issued to help quickly locate at-risk missing adults—Silver Alerts cover persons aged 50 or older with signs of cognitive decline while Turquoise Alerts target Native Americans in imminent danger, with alerts sent via the Wireless Emergency System.
