UNM doctor Kristina Sowar recommends that parents start adjusting children’s bedtimes to reduce stress before school begins.
She advises shifting bedtime earlier by about 10 or 15 minutes each night and modeling calm habits (such as limiting screen time) so kids can prepare for school (for example, by winding down early).
Mayor Tim Keller plans to propose ordinance changes in the fall to ease costly requirements for safe outdoor spaces that help people experiencing homelessness.
New Creation Church opened a secure outdoor space in the International District in April, and Michael Maldonado and his wife began using a similar shelter at the end of May—this move may encourage more organizations to offer such options.
