Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 1st of August.
Good morning, Rio Rancho.
🎭 Culture
The Fruit Basket, a local store in Los Ranchos since 1985, declared Hatch green chile season open and will offer triple hot Lumbre chiles next week — the store sells a 40 pound sack for $38 with free roasting.
The New Mexico Chile Association anticipates higher yields this season, leading to more chiles available in stores soon.
🌲 Environment
Tens of thousands of young adult male tarantulas will soon emerge from their hiding places in New Mexico this fall in search of a mate.
Experts advise to leave them alone — they are generally docile but can bite and jump up to two feet.
🏛️ Government
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham will hold a special session for lawmakers this fall to support Medicaid and food assistance programs and to consider a ban on immigration facilities—official details remain pending.
No official date has been set, but state officials suggested the session may take place in late August or early September.
