Most children are now back in class and doctors advised parents to watch for signs of stress such as anxiety, irritability, stomach aches, and sleep changes during the transition after a relaxed summer—families are also urged to keep kids cool and hydrated by using light clothing and taking breaks during the early morning when it is safest to be outdoors.

Dr. Barry Ramo said that smokers who have smoked more than 20 pack years or quit less than 15 years ago should get a CT scan yearly to catch lung cancer early—waiting until symptoms like cough or trouble breathing appear can lower survival chances.

Health experts add that early detection gives damaged lungs a better chance to repair.
