If you voted Tuesday, you saw state bond questions on your ballot. KKOB reported that voters could say yes or no on bonds for senior citizen facilities, libraries and higher education. The reports we read ran before the vote, so they don't have results.
The higher education question was the very last box on the ballot, the Albuquerque Journal pointed out. Much of it would go to UNM, including $116 million for a new School of Medicine building at the northeast corner of University and Lomas boulevards. It would replace Fitz Hall, built nearly 60 years ago.
- Senior facilities: $21.6 million, with more than $6 million in Albuquerque
- Libraries: $19.3 million for books and other materials
- Higher education: up to $352.2 million
- UNM would get $125.5 million; NMSU, $98.7 million for six projects
The new building would be 350,000 square feet and made of mass timber. Each year's medical school class could grow from 103 students to 200.
The new UNM medical school building would be a 350,000-square-foot facility
